Samita Laniece Jeter is the daughter of the late Samuel Jeter and the late Janis Jeter. The older of two children, Samita graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1991. She furthered her education by attending Alabama State University. While at ASU, Samita became a member of the world renowned Mighty Marching Hornet band. Also, Samita obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. With this degree, Samita dreamed of teaching young children to become independent explorers of life.
After completion of student teaching, Samita was provided the opportunity to begin her teaching career teaching fourth/fifth grade math and science. Shortly after, Samita graduated from college, and began working as a first grade teacher. Nonetheless, Samita continued with school as she worked to complete her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Feeling that she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children through those who taught them, Samita returned to school to earn her Certification in Supervision & Administration.
Ms. Jeter taught first grade, third grade, became Assistant Principal, and then went on to become Principal. Her current position is Director of Head Start. Ms. Jeter has shown dedication to the children in the Lowndes County School system for 18 years. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc., Alabama Education Association, Lowndes County Education Association, Alabama Head Start Association, Region IV Head Start Association, Lowndes County Children’s Policy Council, National Alumni Association of Alabama State University (Lowndes County Chapter), and Alabama State University Band Boosters.
A scripture from the bible that is near to Ms. Jeter’s heart is Proverbs 22:6, ‘Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’
