Lowndes County Head Start uses Frog Street Pre-k which is a comprehensive, research based curriculum that integrates instruction across developmental domains and is aligned to state and national standards. The cornerstones of the curriculum include:
- Integrated lessons with a defined scope and sequence of instruction
- Social-emotional development using Conscious Discipline® strategies
- Differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners including English Language Learners and children with special needs
- A joyful approach to learning
In addition, Head Start believes that the parents are the primary educators of their children. An individual education plan is developed for each child, and parents and teachers work together to enrich the child’s educational environment so that children enjoy learning, develop a positive self-attitude toward school and reach their maximum potential.
Lowndes County Head Start program provides services to children who have other needs. Special resources are available in the areas of speech and language therapy, physical development, emotional and psychological services. At least ten percent of the enrolled children must be disabled and are mainstreamed into the regular Head Start classroom.
Also, children are afforded the opportunity to participate in music and dance classes to enrich their learning.
